I went to the University of Missouri to earn my bachelor's degree in history, and I continued on in law school there to earn my juris doctor. My tutoring experience is extensive. I have participated in after school programs as a tutor, volunteered for a STEM partnership through Boeing, and tutored social studies, English, geography, history, and elementary school level math. I enjoy tutoring history the most because I find the stories and lessons of history to be fascinating. I believe that for students to succeed, they need to be interested in the material and engaged in learning. It's my responsibility to figure out how to keep each student motivated to learn. I also instill in students the idea of slow and steady progress. My students don't have to learn everything in one lesson, and I show them the benefits of breaking down concepts into simple to understand and manageable segments. I help students master those first, celebrate our wins, and then move on. Ultimately this leads to the success of the student. When I have free time, I like to knit, read, play with my dog, play games on the computer, and spend time with my family.
